Tamejavi Fellows, Alumni and Apprentice Fellows gathered in Madera, Ca August 19, at a cultural kitchen to celebrate the completion of the capacity building phase of the TCOFP third cohort and to launch the Tamejavi Culture and Art Series. Fellows shared stories about their culinary traditions, the richness of the flavors, the cultural, ceremonial and healing sifnificance of their food. A series of events will follow the cultural kitchen such a community dialogue aim at offering the space where California Central Valley immigrants and refugee will engage in cultural exchange, but most importantly share their histories, struggles and acknowledgement of being equally targeted by the anti-immigrant, anti-refugee rhetoric that continues to permeate in the public opinion. We hope these conversations will lead to finding a common ground for forming solidarity bonds that will generate a cohesive public voice.
